THE BIG PINK - Winners of the 2009 NME Phillip Hall Radar Award for best new act, The Big Pink follow up their critically acclaimed early singles with their debut album, "A Brief History Of Love". Influenced by artists as diverse as Phil Spector and My Bloody Valentine, the Big Pink make electronic noise-rock with a pop twist. This pop element gives their sonic experimentation a catchier, more commercial sound than you would expect and separates the Big Pink from many contemporary electro artists.
FANFARLO - Fanfarlo is a London-based indie pop band formed in 2006 by the Swedish musician Simon Balthazar. They make extensive use of instruments such as the trumpet, violin and mandolin as well as more commonplace instruments such as guitars and drums. Throughout 2006-2008 they released three limited edition singles and one split 7" single with Sleeping States on london-based indie labels. musically Fanfarlo go far beyond their roots in Sufjan Stevens, Beirut and Arcade Fire to deliver a new strand of universal pop music. Produced by man of the moment Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), "Reservoir" is the record to set Fanfarlo with the big boys.
AUTOKRATZ - autoKratz release their highly anticipated debut album "Animal", a record which will see them state their undeniable claim to joining the royalty of electronic music. This extremely significant lp follows the success of autumn 2008's acclaimed mini album "Down and Out in Paris and London" and looks set to solidify the bands position as one of Europe's most exciting new prospects. This 11 track record is released on pioneering Parisian label Kitsune (Digitalism, Klaxons and Simian Mobile Disco), a stable in which David and Russell autoKratz have found themselves very much at home. The album includes the infectious summer anthem "Stay The Same", the driving and relentless "Can't Get Enough" and the epic "Speak In Silence", all combining to create a remarkable collection of tracks with variety and depth, justifying the bands standing as the flag bearers of the new wave of British electronic music.
LUCAS RENNEY - Lucas Renney is the singer of XL Recordings' (and Sunderland heroes) The Golden Virgins, whose album "Songs of Praise" was released to huge critical acclaim in 2002. His new album "Strange Glory" is a glorious, romantic masterpiece produced by Cocteau Twins and Bella Union's Simon Raymonde and is reminiscent of Richard Hawley or Elvis Costello. It features members of Midlake as Lucas' backing band as well as Bella Union's Stephanie Dosen on vocals.
JOE GODDARD - Joe Goddard releases his solo album "Harvest Festival" on Greco-Roman, the label that he started with 2 other friends. A largely instrumental, electronic album, it winds from woozy ambience to the polyrhythms of London's clubland and back again, and has a strange fixation with fruit. Drawing on a number of influences from U.K. garage, Aphex Twin, J-Dilla, Brian Eno and of course Hot Chip, highlights include the beautiful opener "Apple bobbing", the upbeat club track "Go Bananas" and the melancholy vocal track "Home Time".
GOLDEN SILVERS - Hotly tipped London newcomers Golden Silvers release their debut album "True Romance" via XL. The album was recorded with Lexxx, whose CV includes both Crystal Castles and Esser. The album is eclectic brilliance, stretching from a blase Debbie Harry styled "Rapture" rap on the title track to the classic romance of Nat King Cole and Blur-esque ballads. Whether they're barbershop harmonising Beach Boys-style on "Arrows of Eros", rambling around lyrics like Ian Dury and the Blockheads on "True Romance", or making mad Mystery Jets-esque ramshackle singalong choruses on "Queen of the 21st Century", Golden Silvers represent the past, present and future of excellent pop music.
