In Love With Woody

Last night I saw Woody Allen's latest film Whatever Works. It was typical Woody Allen, lots of twists and witty dialogues. Then I realized, my on-off love affair with his films has lasted almost three decades. Take The Money and Run was the first movie I saw when I was a teenager. It was on TV several times and just watching it made me feel I was intellectually superior since I could appreciate his brand of humor. Growing up, my sources of TV humor were from American cartoons, Three's Company and local sitcoms eg. John en Marsha, Iskul Bukol. Watching Take The Money And Run gave me a different high. Woody and I lost touch and we got re-acquainted thru his Oscar Best Picture Annie Hall. His mature brand of drama-
offered something new. Woody and I got comedy in subsequent films like Purple Rose Of Cairo, Manhattan, Husbands and Wives, Alice, Hannah and Her Sisters, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Mighty Aphrodite and even the mockumentary Zelig are included in my list of all-time favourite Woody Allen films. His serious drama movies are equally captivating. Matchpoint, September, Another Woman, Interiors are all poignant piece of work.
