The movie was 2 hours and 45 minutes long. At first, it really didn't matter because I was so eager to see how director Roland Emmerich wanted the world to end. The movie trailer was quite impressive, if you count the number of destroyed landmarks. But after seeing John Cusack & company escaped the collapse of California in a private plane, I just got bored ! I know Roland Emmerich is not exactly Woody Allen, if you have seen his past films. Stargate had the androgynous Jaye Davidson so it was okay. Independence Day kicked ass and was one of the best alien invasion movies ever made. It started Roland's fascination with the destruction of White House. Godzilla was very disappointing because they gave Godzilla a lousy makeover. I intentionally missed The Patriot but had fun watching Eight Legged Freaks. The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC were both so-so movies and it just made me miss Paul Verhoeven more. You are never supposed to expect much from popcorn flicks like this. But stretching it to more than 2 hours has become an ordeal. Danny Glover always had this grim look of his face all throughout the movie. Maybe it was a his warning to us that this movie might actually end in 2012.
